After several years of research and development under AirShots, RealSIM was incorporated as a separate Limited company in 2008.
RealSim is short for Real-time Simulation builds geospatially accurate, photo-realistic, 3D models of towns and cities. One can view and interact with these digital or virtual city environments on any gaming or real-time simulation programme. Uses include planning and development, training and education, 3D satellite navigation maps, and real world games.
The success of RealSIM to date is the product of the skills and attributes of its personnel. The people behind RealSIM are as follows;
Gavin Duffy – Managing Director, M.Sc
Gavin Duffy has an M.Sc in Geophysics from NUI Galway and became very interested in real-time 3D visualization and photography during his PhD work (in writing).
In 2005 he set up AirShots Limited with Eugene Lynch, a unique elevated photography operation. While researching how to extract 3-dimensional data from AirShots imagery he came across an Australian company, Simmersion, who use gaming technology to visualize real-world environments in 3D.
Simmersion were impressed by Gavin’s experience in 3D terrain visualization and the novel aerial photography operation and offered AirShots the franchise rights to assemble town and city models on to their powerful SIMurban visualization platform.
This agreement was transferred to RealSIM in 2008. Gavin currently manages all aspects of the RealSIM operation.
Eugene Lynch – Business Development Manager, M.Sc
Eugene co-founded RealSIM with Gavin Duffy and is responsible for Business Development.
Eugene has over ten years experience in the security industry and has worked for leading security installation companies in South Africa, UK and Ireland. In more recent years Eugene worked as a security consultant in Dublin and has been involved in the design and implementation of a number of high profile security installations in Ireland including Diageo Ireland (Guinness), University of Limerick and Croke Park Stadium to name but a few.
Eugene holds a B.Sc. from Queens University Belfast and M.Sc. from The National University of Ireland, Galway. With a strong background in digital image processing and geospatial data, he is well positioned to exploit new opportunities for RealSIMs 3D content.
Dr. Peter Brennan – Chairman
Dr. Peter Brennan is Managing Director of EPS Consulting and is a shareholder in several other ventures including Bid Management Services Ltd. He has considerable experience advising companies in preparing and implementing business plans. He will be President of Dublin Chamber in 2010. He is a member of the Institute of Directors, the SFA and the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisors.
Eoghan Quigley – Chief 3D Graphic Designer
Eoghan is RealSIM’s chief graphic designer. He has over 6 years experience of modeling for realtime 3D visualisation in the gaming industry. He has brought this experience to bear in the modeling of real world environments and has to date applied detailed modeling and photo-realistic detail to many square kilometers of urban environments in Ireland. He was also the main graphic designer on the much acclaimed Secrets of the Stones RTE documentary, re-creating some of Irelands best known historical Christian sites.
